Pastor Marcus Johnson

Marcus Johnson came to pastor our church in November of 2002.  He and his wife, Gwen, were married in 1992 and have three children.  From 1990 to 1996, Marcus served with Emmaus Ministries in Chicago, a Christian outreach to young adult men in prostitution on the streets.  He was an outreach volunteer for two years, and their outreach coordinator for four years.  Following that, he pastored Living Hope Church in Plano, IL from 1996 to 2002, where he was ordained as a minister in March of 1997.  During that time, Marcus directed the ministry center of Living Hope Church which offered food, clothes, and spiritual help to over sixty families a week, coming from several towns in the area.

Pastor Marcus gives priority to preaching and teaching, discipleship, prayer, and visitation with church members.  He leads our worship services, is active in our youth and young adult ministries, and offers oversight and support to other areas such as children's ministries and administration.  He meets regularly for prayer with pastors of other churches in the Round Lake area, and he encourages gospel preaching churches in working together through ministries such as Love INC and Tri-County Pregnancy & Parenting Services.  Pastor Marcus is also active in the Evangelical Free Church of America (of which Lake Region Bible Church is affiliated).  He helps our church in living out the biblical model of "interdependence"  (that is, we are an autonomous church that chooses to support, cooperate with, and seek the guidance of the Evangelical Free Church of America and its International Mission "Reach Global").

The Johnson Family

Back in 1987, Marcus started teaching and preaching through the ministry of an interdenominational youth group, in his hometown of Prophetstown, IL.  He later attended Wheaton College (where he met his wife Gwen), receiving a Bachelor's degree in Christian Education in 1992, and a Master's degree in Evangelism at Wheaton Graduate School in 1996.  Over the last few years Marcus has furthered his theological training at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, through the Master's in Christian Studies program.  In September of 2006, his ordination as a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ was acknowledged and transferred to the Evangelical Free Church of America.

"I am very grateful to God and to numerous people (family and friends) who have impacted my life with love and support, and who I have served with in gospel ministry, from Prophetstown, Wheaton College, Emmaus Ministries, Uptown Baptist Church in Chicago, Living Hope Church in Plano, and here at Lake Region Bible Church in Round Lake.  Thanks be to Jesus Christ our Lord!" ---Marcus Johnson
