Introduction to Mark chapter 4

1. Defining some Terms

Parable: a figure of speech (a simile, metaphor, short story) that expresses spiritual truth by comparing it to the natural realm (God’s word is like a seed)

the Word: the message of the kingdom; God’s self revelation in Jesus Christ (the gospel)

Kingdom: the divine reign or rule of God thru Jesus Christ advancing in this world and climaxing at His 2nd Coming

Secret: that which must be revealed in order to be understood (a truth that can’t be understood unless God explains it to us)

Revelation: God’s truth (concerning His divine nature, His will, and His work in this world) and the process by which this truth is made known 

 

2. Today’s Parable in Context

 ● God’s kingdom has come in Jesus

 ● Jesus is an itinerant (traveling) Preacher

 ● Large Crowds are attracted to Him

 ● Opposition is rising against Him

 ● Jesus focuses on the Disciples
