Preface: A Joy in the Journey
“There is a joy in the journey; there's a light we can love on the way. There is a wonder and wildness to life; and freedom for those who obey” (Michael Card, Joy in the Journey). Like countless others, my wife Gwen and I have journeyed together by faith in different life and ministry contexts over the last thirty years. Amidst our flaws and shortcomings, we are pursuing the joy of a loving, holistic Christian life and mission, to which God calls us in Christ, for His own glory and by His grace (1Pe 5:10; Rom 5:2; 2Co 4:15). Perhaps you too have found a joy in this journey, the “inexpressible joy” of knowing and loving Jesus Christ (who we have not yet seen), as God’s beloved people, who are guarded by God’s power and bear witness to His gospel, as sojourners and exiles (pilgrims and foreigners) in this fallen world (1 Peter 1:5-9; 2:9-12; 3:15ff).
